The Many Faces of Computer File Recovery

At some time or other, most people are faced with the need for file recovery. Whether it's through virus contamination, accidental deletion or some form of disaster – natural or otherwise – files are sometimes lost. Since the loss of critical data can be devastating to both individual users and companies, a solid plan for the recovery of files is essential.

Depending upon the circumstances, there are a variety of methods which are utilized for the process of file recovery. Some can be initiated by the individual user, while others require specific software or other specialized methods that must be used by an I.T. professional. The type of file, the circumstances surrounding the loss of data and the original location of the data all help to determine which recovery technique needs to be employed in order to extract the information that was lost.

If, for instance, an individual PC user has experienced the loss of a file as the result of power outage or a computer glitch, most systems have intrinsic programming which will allow the user to access the most recent version of the data that was lost through an automatic file recovery option. In cases such as data loss within a server or significant loss within a network, professionals will need to be contacted in order to execute a full file recovery.

Due to technological advances in recent years, software can now be purchased that's been designed to perform a full system recovery for the individual user. Such software is available in more than one version: for users who are attempting to recover files that were lost while working offline and for those who need to recover files that were lost while on the internet.
