Choosing a Data Recovery Service Provider

Data recovery service providers have been enjoying a lucrative business, as a result of the number of companies who are utilizing their various recovery and backup services. Just as in every other area of commerce, however, there are those whose business philosophy is to get as much money – from the greatest number of clients – as possible, through means which, at the very least, border on unscrupulous. Caveat emptor is definitely the catch-phrase of the day when shopping for a company that claims to offer a comprehensive data recovery service plan.

While there are certainly high-quality data recovery service providers, you should do some research before committing to a particular provider.

Too often, "spectacular" deals are offered which entice unwary customers to enter into a contract that promises data recovery and/or other services for less than $100 and a no-cost evaluation.

After the deal is struck, the customer discovers that there are multiple fees that have been attached, which were previously unapparent.

These fees can dramatically increase the overall cost, making the initial quote a mere down payment. So much for the spectacular deal!

Another area of concern is the skill level of staff members that are employed by the data recovery service provider.

For example, if the employees of a particular service provider have not been adequately trained or have very little practical experience, it can result in elevated costs. In many cases, this type of employee does not possess the necessary skill levels to recognize whether data is retrievable or not. If the customer is told, in error, that their data has been lost with no possibility of retrieval, monies are lost through the loss of critical data and in extra fees that are imposed in order to attempt recovery through another means. In reality, the data recovery service provider had the ability to recover the data, but lacked the knowledge to recognize this or – in some cases – was unprincipled enough to deny the possibility of retrieval.

There are a lot of legitimate data recovery service providers on the market today, so do not let the negative possibilities become overwhelming. Through careful research and intelligent questions, reputable service providers can be found that will have the flexibility of meeting specific customer needs without charging exorbitant fees.
